Volunteers make up one of the most important components of the Santa Barbara Veterans Day Half Marathon. We would like to thank the thousands of volunteers that have made this event possible since 2009!
Clubs, Groups, Sorority, Fraternity or Associations – If you are looking for a service project, please consider working with us. We can provide a project where you could work together or separately as needed. We provide Community service hours.
Packet Pick Up and Registration – Friday, November 10 - This is an exciting day for the runners. One day before the race runners pick up race numbers and event t-shirts. We need help at many pick up stations throughout the day.
Course Monitors – Volunteers are needed to direct runners on course as they run through Santa Barbara along roads and bike paths. Volunteers will NOT be directing traffic, which is up to the law enforcement agencies. The race requires hundreds of course monitors. Tell us where you live, and let us place you as close to your neighborhood as possible.
Water/Fuel Stations – Refueling Stations” are located along the route. Some have water, and some an energy drinks. Come hand out drinks at a station closest to your neighborhood.
First Aid Stations – We are looking for volunteers with First Responders Certification to work with other medical personnel who are in charge of all the First Aid Stations along the course and at the finish.
Therapist Area – Are you a massage therapist or chiropractor? We are looking to provide your services at the finish. Therapy is provided between 7:00am-11:30am.
Entertainment – The runners were excited about the entertainment along the route last year. We need more groups that can provide even more entertainment along the route this year. Bring your talent, whatever it is, to play banjo, guitar, horn, fiddle, hula or hip hop dance, have a magic act or juggle…contact us and we will find you a place to perform. We also need a volunteer to assist with the coordination and placement of the entertainment.
Monitors – We need to separate spectators from runners. At the finish you will be where the action is.
Water drop (1), set up at Leadbetter Beach(2) and Sweep Vehicle(3) – If you are an early riser and want a short duty, we need your help dropping supplies off at the water stations between 4:00am-6:00am. Setting up the finish area will be late Friday, Nov 11 and early Sat, Nov 12. If you want a later start, we need help at the end of the race picking up all the supplies from the water tables between 8:00am-1:30pm.
More Prep time – Need a few volunteers to help prepare the packets for runner pick up day. We meet on Thursday afternoon to attach chips to numbers, etc. This makes for easy organization on Friday.
Finish Area Extra Hands – We often find we need extra hands at the finish area at Volunteer Sign-in and placement (do you know enough about half marathon organization to direct volunteers), Tear Down (taking down light weight barricades after event is over) or be an extra hand to replace a volunteer who did not show up. Are you flexible and a taking initiative kind of person? We could use you.
