Santa Barbara Veterans Day Half Marathon 2015 Schedule of Events

Moninda Marube to defend Half Marathon title; new this year: UC-Santa Barbara race start, AppFolio Corporate Relay, 805 Running Challenge series, beer garden at spectacular Leadbetter Beach Finish Line Festival; 7th event edition ready to run Saturday, Nov. 7 on America’s Riviera

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – (November 5, 2015) – The Santa Barbara Veterans Day Half Marathon & Half Marathon Relay 2015 is set to go on Saturday morning, November 7. At the 7th event edition, the 2010-11 Santa Barbara Marathon champion and defending Half Marathon champion Moninda Marube of Kenya will lead the 3,000-plus participants from Isla Vista to Goleta to the “World’s Most Beautiful Finish Line” at Leadbetter Beach. The annual community event is the largest running event in Santa Barbara.

“We are looking forward to the new race start at UC-Santa Barbara and the new spectacular beach-to-beach 13.1 mile course for the runners,” said race director Rusty Snow. “In addition, 11 American Riviera Bank pace teams will help the runners achieve their finish goal times, from 1 hour, 30 minutes to 2 hours, 30 minutes. Also, a huge thank you to all our sponsors, volunteers, community leaders and race staff who help make the Santa Barbara Half Marathon such a special event for the participants.”

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 6
The Health & Wellness Expo at the Earl Warren Showgrounds serves as packet pick-up for all race participants. At the Expo, race participants, family and friends will browse the many exhibits the Expo has to offer and discover the latest in running, health & fitness, travel, technology and much, much more. From running shoes and apparel to nutrition and spa treatments, there’s something for everyone.

10:00am – Health & Wellness Expo opens at Earl Warren Showgrounds, 3400 Calle Real, Santa Barbara, CA 93105

8:00pm – Health & Wellness Expo closes

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 7
New Half Marathon start at UC-Santa Barbara, University Plaza with short run on Route 217, closed for the first time for an event.

Flags will be handed out to all runners at the top of the “Veterans Final Mile” where the course heads downhill and is lined with 180 American flags where Veterans, active duty personnel and residents of the community come to cheer all runners on that last important Mile to the finish.

7:00am – Half Marathon, Elite Performance & Rehabilitation Center Half Marathon Relay, AppFolio Corporate Relay start, 3 waves (2 minutes apart), at UC-Santa Barbara’s University Plaza

8:00am – Finish Line Festival opens at Leadbetter Beach

9:30am – Half Marathon awards ceremony at Finish Line Festival, emceed by local media celebrities John Palminteri and Drew Wakefield

10:00am – Half Marathon Wounded Warrior awards ceremony at Finish Line Festival

1:30pm – Finish Line Festival and Event course close

Finish Line Festival
The Finish Line Festival will welcome all finishers, family and friends to beautiful Leadbetter Beach near Santa Barbara’s harbor area. It will be the perfect way to celebrate each runner’s 13.1 mile journey and finish. There will also be food trucks, vendors, post-race massage, a beer garden hosted by local Firestone Walker Brewery, music by DJ Sparx and more!

Lafond Winery, Official Wine Sponsor, will also provide a bottle of wine to each individual adult award category winner and for relay team winners, a case of wine.
